What is AgeCheq?


The AgeCheq Parent Dashboard helps parents and developers comply with regulations that protect children's personal data like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States.  That means that in order to collect this information online services like games and apps must:

  • Ask parents to prove that they are adults
  • Provide parents with a way to identify their children to online services like games or apps that want to store data 
  • Ask parents for their approval to collect data on their children


The AgeCheq Parent Dashboard provides these services to games and apps.  It also gives parents the tools they need to learn more about what information these games and apps collect about their children and gives parents the tools they need to revoke their approval to collect this information later if necessary.  

What do I do?


Setting up a Parent Dashboard account and proving that you are an adult is easy.  Follow these steps to get started.  


Step 1: Sign up for an AgeCheq Parent Dashboard Account


To sign up for an AgeCheq Parent Dashboard account, open a Web browser and navigate to http://parent.agecheq.com. Click the "Sign Up" button to get started. Enter your email address and choose a password.  The password you choose must be between 6 and 32 characters.  Click on the "Continue" button.  


 

Step 2: Choose your child's AgeCheq PIN


Next you’ll set up an AgeCheq PIN for your child.  An AgeCheq PIN is a unique identifier consisting of 4-30 letters, numbers, and symbols.  Your child will use their AgeCheq PIN to inform you about new AgeCheq-enabled games and apps that request your permission to collect data.  Choose your child’s gender, birth month, and birth year, and click "Finish".


Step 3: Verify your identity


We make verification as painless as possible while staying within the guidelines set by the FTC to manage child privacy. Most options are 100% free forever.  Click on the "Verify Now" button and choose a method to prove that you are an adult.  


Step 4: Authorize a game


Once you've chosen a handle for your child and proven that you are an adult, the final step is to give games and apps your authorization to collect data.  Select the AgeCheq PIN you selected for your child from the "Select a child" drop down list box, and click on the "Authorize" buttons to complete the registration process.


Step 5: Return to the game


Return to the game and give it the AgeCheq PIN you chose for your child.  Congratulations!
