How do I get an AgeCheqPIN for my child?

Create an account on the AgeCheq Parent Dashboard.  You'll be asked to create your child's unique AgeCheqPIN immediately after you've created an account.

Why do I need to validate who I am?

Website and application operators need to know that the person giving authorization for the collection of child’s data is a verified parent. The guidelines to verifying parents are set by regulatory bodies in charge of where the child is located.  In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission enforces a law known as thChildren’s Online Privacy Protection Act, or COPPA.  In the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation requires similar authorizations.

How do I get a verified PayPal account so that I can validate who I am immediately for free?

If you haven't already verified your PayPal account so that you can use it to validate your AgeCheq Parent Dashboard account, it doesn't take long to make it happen.  Here are some steps.

Step 1: Sign in to PayPal.

Step 2: Click the Get Verified Link on the top left of the page.

Step 3: Select the option you want to connect a bank account to PayPal.

Get Verified using your bank account:

All you need to do is add your bank account. Then Paypal will transfer two small deposits. Verify these deposits by entering them on the PayPal website. After that just need to answer a confirmation phone call from PayPals authentication service that validates your information, once done with ths step you will be verified.

Get Verified using your credit card:

If you prefer to not use your bank account you can verify using a credit card. To do this you just provide PayPal with your info, they will then make two very small charges to your card. After you see the charges, go back to the PayPal website and enter the amounts of the charges as well as the code that will appear on your credit card statement. Then they will reimburse you for the charges and you will be Verified.

How do I un-authorize an app?

In the parent dashboard, select your child that was previously authorized to use the game or app. Find the app you want to un-authorize. Consider just "blocking" the app from your child if you just want to temporarily keep the app from accessing your child's information.  Select the "Contact Publisher" button found on the right. A modal box should display with two options in it. Select the "Revoke this app" button. Another screen asking you to confirm your selection will pop up. Select "revoke" again. This will disallow your child to play the game in the future (unless it’s re-authorized). It will also let the developer know that all the data that was collected from your child needs to be deleted.

What is considered personally identifiable information (PII)?

Here is the list supplied by the FTC on what constitutes PII. If an online service like a website, game, or app tries to collect any of the following from a user under 13, they need to ask for a parent's authorization first.

  • A home or other physical address including street name and name of a city or town;
  • Online contact information;
  • A screen or user name that functions as online contact information;
  • A telephone number;
  • A social security number;
  • A persistent identifier that can be used to recognize a user over time and across different websites or online services;
  • A photograph, video, or audio file, where such file contains a child’s image or voice;
  • Geolocation information sufficient to identify street name and name of a city or town; or Information concerning the child or the parents of that child that the operator collects online from the child and combines with an identifier described above.
